Hymmen Digital Printing Technologies Win another Innovation Award
i4F, a group of companies providing patents and technologies to the flooring industry, recently won the “Best of TISE (The International Surfaces Event)” SURFACES 2021 Innovation Award for its portfolio of Digital Printing technologies. This recognised Hymmen’s Digital Lacquer Embossing (DLE) Plus technology, solely available via an i4F license, for its advancements in the creation of unbelievably real optics and haptics. Hymmen has established itself as one of the world's leading providers of industrial digital printing for flooring and already won the Great Innovations Award at the INPRINT fair in 2014 and an Interzum Red Dot Award for its patented DLE technology in 2019.
UV LED Prevents Mercury Bulb Waste and Saves Energy
With traditional UV curing processes, the tremendous heat associated with mercury UV lamps require a significant amount of electricity to operate, in addition to unseen maintenance expenses. This article will discuss how Phoseon UV LED technologies provide incomparable waste reduction, and energy savings of between 75 and 85 percent compared to mercury drying systems. With Phoseon lamps, there is no need for fume extraction units to remove the gases generated by mercury-vapor UV lamps. UV LED is not only good for the environment, but also has a very positive effect on the finances, sustainability, health, and safety of company operations.
Tech Fest Preview: Innovative Glass Printing with Marabu and Koenig & Bauer
The FuturePrint Tech Fest is a celebration of print technology taking place on the 29th-30th June 2021, where experts will provide updates on new technological developments, innovations and stories of how the print technology community is bringing to life new ideas that create new possibilities. Ahead of the session, we look at the key collaboration between Marabu and Koenig & Bauer, and the innovative glass printing technology they have developed.
Why UV LED Curing is the Right Choice for Label and Package Printing
If you are a narrow web converter interested in UV LED curing, this article will explain why LED technology is the right choice for all label and package printing applications. We will start by highlighting all the benefits brought to converters when they upgrade from traditional mercury UV curing to Phoseon LED technology. We will also discuss why UV LED outperforms for some of the more challenging applications such as opaque whites, dense blacks and metallic, laminating and cold foil adhesives.
Bonding with Agfa's UV-Jettable Primers
While UV-curable inks boast excellent adhesion properties, a primer still comes in useful when printing on particular substrates. Some substrates are notoriously difficult to make ink adhere too. Take for example metal, glass, ceramics or polypropylene, which can be used for numerous applications, including decorative printing, direct-to-shape printing, or marking & coding. To ensure superior bonding of UV-curable inkjet inks to challenging media, dedicated digital primers can save the day.

Going shopping in a McLaren. What’s wrong with a Volvo?
Technology is a wonderful thing. This is an assumption most people (myself included) tend to make. We live in a world seemingly defined by how clever technology is. How fast is the broadband, how many steps have we taken, how efficient is the MPG, what’s the carbon footprint etc. These days we can measure everything so easily. in this article, Richard Darling asks why go to the shops in a Mclaren when a Volvo will do?
Tech Fest Preview: Single Pass UV Inkjet System Integration - Agfa's Ink Perspective
How do you start designing your inkjet printing solution when you are an industry where the print becomes part of the product? Let us assume you are convinced that inkjet printing will deliver you key advantages for your lead time, your freedom of design, low waste, variable run lengths, etc. In short, you will profit from all the digital printing advantages. Great. We believe you will.
Tech Fest Preview: Testing and Choosing Print Heads for Industrial Applications
In my previous FuturePrint blog on the topic of modular lab testing, we looked at how combining drop watcher technology with modular components for printing and curing can help with customised testing of different material combination for industrial inkjet applications. We follow up here with a brief discussion on print head choices and testing for meeting different fluid needs.

SICPA: Expanding Applications Latitude with Thermal Inkjet
Non-impact printing technologies are the most suitable for a variety of industry applications. The lack of contact between the print actuator and the support represents a significant advantage, for example, in case of printing on moving objects, as occurs during the coding and marking of packaged products in serialisation lines.
Show me the Money!! The Timeless Lessons from Jerry Maguire (the film).
Jerry Maguire is in my top 5 favourite films of all time. As far as I'm concerned, there is very little that could be disliked about it. Great cast, superb performances, awesome script, feel-good story. It is funny, heartfelt and inspiring. What's not to like about that?

Slaying Giants - a Tale from Ancient History
This article is another unashamed tribute to my favourite writer Malcolm Gladwell. This time it is inspired by his book, David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants.
Technical Considerations for Integrating UV LED Curing
There are two key parameters of an LED lamp that should be understood for the purposes of optimizing cure and establishing a process window. Identifying this process window will result in the most durable and desirable finish, as well as acceptable adhesion and surface cure: peak irradiance and energy density.
