UV LED Curing Improves Production Efficiencies for Printed Electronics

Printed electronics are fluid functional materials that create an ultra-thin and flexible electronic device when printed on a flat surface. Functional materials such as special plastics, fluids, or pastes are printed on layers in a thin flexible film. Functional films can be integrated into various devices and products.

Printing typically uses common printing equipment suitable for defining patterns on material using inkjet, screen, or other printing processes. Electrically functional electronic or optical inks are deposited on the substrate, creating active or passive devices, such as thin film transistors; capacitors; coils; resistors.

UV LED curing technology is a great fit for applications such as inkjet-printed electronics, screen-printed electronics, conformal (electronics) coatings, and electronic assembly adhesives. UV LED offers significant advantages over traditional UV curing for printed electronics, including less space, maintenance and downtime which translates into higher productivity rates, less scrap and higher quality end products at lower costs. The use of traditional UV lamps to cure coatings on heat-sensitive substrates such as PCBs and flexible plastics can result in deformation. UV LEDs produce significantly less heat, enabling coating of heat-sensitive substrates. Due to narrow, high UVA wavelength, UV LEDs produce significantly less heat. This high UVA wavelength also allows for a more penetrative cure which is an advantage when faced with thicker sections.

Advantages:

 High UV-A wavelength will reduce heat-related damage to materials and substrates

 High UV-A is excellent for curing thick sections

 Controllable power output Instant on/off

 Available in 385/395/405 and 365nm wavelengths

PCB Printing

Reliable and stable LED curing equipment helps the PCB printing industry to improve production efficiency to deliver more stable, reliable, and refined products to customers. UV LED curing technology makes PCB manufacturing more flexible and accurate, which reduces waste and drastically improves yields.

Today, UV LED curing can basically cover all the technical requirements of the PCB industry, such as solder paste printing, solder joint protection, silkscreen printing, solder mask printing, and engraved line printing. With the continued development of smaller and more layered PCB, the requirements for PCB manufacturing are getting more challenging. UV LED curing lamps have played a decisive role as the key equipment for printing and curing. Reliable and stable curing equipment helps the PCB printing industry to improve production efficiency, reduce defective rates, reduce equipment replacement and maintenance costs, and to deliver more stable, reliable, and refined products to customers.

Touch Panel Display Manufacturing

Many electronic product manufacturers are already reaping the benefits of using UV LED curing to improve their manufacturing processes. UV LED curing technology for touch panel display manufacturing is an emerging application as it provides consistent stable output, no ‘hot’ spots, and low heat. UV LED curing offers electronics manufacturers higher yield rates and productivity due to a consistent and stable process with less damage to heat-sensitive components. UV LEDs require very little space making them easy to integrate into small spaces. Since UV LEDs produce no ozone emissions or hazardous waste concerns, they are the most environmentally friendly and safe UV curing technology available. Manufacturers who need to improve their yield rates should consider UV LED curing technology.
