Tom Shea from Siegwerk to Unveil the Potential of Single Pass UV-Cure Inkjet Printing at IM Engineering East Conference

Tom Shea, the Head of UV Inkjet Ink Sales for the US and Canada, is scheduled to participate in the 'Unlocking the Power of Digital Print' Workshop at the IM Engineering East Conference in New York City on June 13th. Hosted by FuturePrint, this workshop will focus on Digital Print in Manufacturing, and Tom will share his expertise in Single Pass UV-Cure Inkjet Printing.

Siegwerk, a prominent player in the ink technology industry with a remarkable 190-year history, specializes in single-pass UV cure inkjet inks designed specifically for packaging. They serve various segments, including pharmaceuticals, coding and marking, labels, and direct-to-shape object decoration. With a widespread global presence, Siegwerk provides services to customers in over 100 countries.

Tom Shea will shed light on how UV-cure single-pass printing fits into the broader digital landscape during his presentation. He will discuss the significant cost advantages of inkjet technology for short print runs, such as the elimination of analogue make-ready expenses and a reduction in working capital expense. Tom will also delve into the benefits of digital printing compared to analogue methods, particularly in terms of imaging and the advantages of short-run digital output, such as customisation, versioning, and variable data track & trace.

Tom will address the crucial aspect of considering Environmental Health & Safety in relation to printing ink onto certain types of packaging. Packaging applications account for over 95% of Siegwerk's ink usage, and their inks are suitable for direct imaging on food containers, such as bottle caps, plastic lids, and cups, which have indirect food contact. Siegwerk differentiates itself by developing single-pass UV cure inks that meet rigorous regulations such as REACH, complying with the Nestle List, and California Prop 65. Siegwerk’s purchasing department strictly adheres to guidelines to avoid acquiring any chemicals that are restricted. This approach allows them to supply OEM companies that prioritize compliance in their printing processes.
