From Guttenberg to AI: An interview with FuturePrint & Pack Summit Speaker, Allan Bendall Global Business Development Director - Saueressig

Allan, what kind of background do you have and where have you worked in your career in packaging?

I have worked in the packaging industry for 30 years, specialising in Tobacco, Pharma and FMCG markets. With a background in Artwork, Repro, Colour management and Print tooling, I have come to understand the demands placed on quality, consistency and innovation within this space, to make any brand stand out on shelf and in the hand.

What has changed over the years?

I have seen massive changes in both technology and global consumerism impacting the complete packaging industry. The speed of change in the market now is one that is driving innovation behind product delivery and I am excited to be involved in this new generation of product development and deployment and I'll be addressing this theme in my presentation at the FuturePrint & Pack Summit in Cambridge.

What will you be talking about in your session?

The title of my sessions is: From Gutenberg to Artificial Intelligence. In the presentation, I will be talking about how we need to accelerate the revolution of production supply chains throughout the printing industry.

In addition, I will be taking a look at holistic solutions for supply chain partners to develop and thrive by using innovative data platforms to maximise efficiency and consistency in production across multiple analogue and digital print processes.

I think that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to be one of the Biggest Cultural Revolutions within print since Gutenberg.

Why?

With AI, there is the perfect opportunity to reduce and remove inefficient and repetitive tasks which will allow creative and innovative business changes to be implemented in an agile and sustainable manner.

Why AI within the Printing Industry?

Because this will better meet the demands of the consumer to deliver market-leading levels of service and consistency. There is a holistic need for digitization in my view to meet the increasing demands of a complex supply chain by adding flexibility and responsiveness to production. Also, to expand horizons and develop new effective and agile solutions

AI can help by re-imagining the process flow for any given task, by joining tasks and creating an integrated supply chain. Data is not only letters and numbers, imagery can be used as part of a data-driven workflow increasing efficiency and consistency and delivering a sustainable supply chain for now and the future.
